WSQ Perform Inspection and Maintenance of Ex Equipment (TGS-2024047011/AT2319)

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the fundamental principles and best practices necessary to ensure the reliability and safety of Ex equipment in hazardous environments. It covers inspection methods, maintenance procedures, and the regulatory standards that govern the use of Ex equipment. Emphasis is placed on mastering correct handling protocols to prevent accidents and maintain efficient operations in industries where explosive atmospheres are present. The course is structured in alignment with IEC 60079 standards, ensuring compliance with internationally recognized guidelines for explosive atmospheres. WSQ Training for High-Risk Working Environments aligned with MOM requirements for Major Hazard Installations (MHI).
Theoretical Course Content:
- Hazardous Area Equipment (Ex)
- Ex Equipment Specifications and Selection
- Inspection and Maintenance of Ex Equipment
- Field Control and Measurement
Practical Performance:
- Ex Nameplate Interpretation
- Inspection of Ex ‘d’, ‘e’, ‘n’ equipment
- Inspection of Ex ‘i’ equipment
Assessment:
- Written Assessment (P1 / P2 )
- Practical Performance
- Demonstrate understanding of hazardous areas, principles of area classification and specialized equipment used in hazardous areas;
- State the relevant legislation, standards and certification schemes (ATEX, IECEx) governing Ex equipment;
- Explain the different protection types for both electrical and mechanical equipment;
- Develop skills for selecting appropriate Ex equipment and interpreting equipment markings;
- Carry out inspection and maintenance Ex equipment;
- Develop knowledge for documentation of Hazardous Area Equipment Register (HAER).
Certification
Upon completion and passing of all required assessments, participants will receive 2 formal recognition through the award of a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by SSG: Instrumentation and Control Field Maintenance Management & Certificate of Training issued by ATTS: Perform Inspection and Maintenance of Ex-Equipment.
It is recommended that the course be retaken every five years to ensure that participants are up-to-date with the latest standards and best practices in the field.
This course is suitable for a wide range of technical personnel but will greatly benefit to Facility Engineers, Technicians, Electricians and Managers of Energy & Petro-Chemical industries
- Basic english proficiency – able to read and write in English
- Electrical Qualification / or
- Employment certification /or CV- relevant work experience in Electrical
Application procedures

Successful applicants will receive the course confirmation and payment advisory email. Registration is only confirmed upon full payment of course fees.
For Application – Document Submission
The applicant will need to complete an enrolment form before the course to assess their entry requirement. If the applicant does not meet the entry requirement, they will be asked to submit their work experience/resume to determine their suitability. An interview may be done to assess their suitability too.
Criteria for WSQ Funding* to be eligible, participants:
- Must be Singaporeans or Permanent Residents of Singapore
- May be employer-sponsored, self-sponsored or unemployed
- Achieve 100% attendance
- Pass all required assessments
- Eligibility acceptance subject to final approval by WSQ before course commencement
*Participants who do not fulfill the above criteria are not eligible for WSQ funding & certification, and are required to pay the course fee in full.
