Overview
To train personnel in the correct procedures for the overhaul of explosion protected motors in accordance with codes of practice & manufacturer’s procedures, and to consider the certification aspects.
Who Should Attend
Personnel involved in the inspection and maintenance of explosion protected electrical motors, and where practical competency in the dismantling, re-assembly and testing is required. Delegates should have previously attended hazardous areas courses, although the principles of explosion protection methods Ex‘d’, Ex‘e’, Ex‘n’ and Ex‘p’ will be presented as a refresher.

- General principles including gas grouping, area classification, ignition temperature and ingress protection. Constructional, installation and inspection standards; and equipment marking. Overview of methods of protection flameproof Ex d; increased safety Ex e; non sparkling Ex n and pressurisation Ex p.
- Flameproof Ex D Motors
Construction, Dismantling, inspection and reassembly. Flamepaths. Measurement of flamepaths. Bearing, removal and fitting. Terminal marking. Electrical insulation testing. - Increased Safety Ex ‘e’ Motors
Constructional features, specifically for the elimination of arcs/sparks and excessive surface temperatures. Limitations of use. Selection of overload devices with regard to tE time and Ia/In current ratios. - Ex d Motors
Special features, and terminal arrangements. - Pressurisation Ex p motors
Constructional features. Applications.
